Description

Aardcure XA Gel is an advanced thixotropic, concrete surface retarder that is uniquely formulated to be applied to formwork prior to concrete placement.

Aardcure XA GEL can be painted to surfaces and enables retarding of the surface layer of concrete.

This unique feature allows easy surface washing to expose aggregate after stripping of the form board.

Uses

Form and pour structural concrete to receive bonded overlays

Features / Benefits

  • Can be applied to formwork prior to pours to enable aggregate exposure post stripping
  • Treated surface can be removed by high-pressure wash
  • VOC compliant
  • Ready to use
  • Clean up with water
  • Alternative to mechanical abrasion for bonding subsequent concrete slabs and overlays
  • Fluorescein dye added for visibility

Application Instructions

Application Method

Preparation
Agitate the material until thoroughly mixed to ensure consistent retarding properties.

Assess the application area so that a fixed volume of mixed material can be applied over a fixed area to determine the correct application rate.

Formwork surfaces must be clean and free of deleterious materials prior to application of Aardcure XA GEL.

Application Method

Apply Aardcure XA GEL to vertical or horizontal formwork with low pressure spray unit, brush or roller at sufficient rate to achieve consistent and even coverage.

Application rage of approx 4 – 5m2/L ensuring even coverage to entire area, using two even coats in preference to one thick coat to avoid excessive pooling and runs on vertical finishes.

Allow Aardcure XA GEL to dry prior to placement of concrete but do not allow the applied surface to become wet as this will remove the retarder from the formed surface.

Place concrete using sound placement techniques and allow to cure.

Strip formwork from concrete 12 – 24 hours after the pour.

Wash the surface with suitable pressure via pressure washer with a turbo head to remove the concrete surface to the desired level of aggregate exposure.

The surface is then profiled to achieve good bonding with subsequent bonded slabs and overlays.

IMPORTANT

  • Pressure washing must be undertaken with a suitable tip and at an appropriate angle to avoid concentrated pressure on one area to avoid heavy washouts.
  • Always do a test patch to confirm the required results are achieved, particularly when using the product for the first time.
